SMA Creativity & Innovation in Teaching Award

Consistent with the primary mission of SMA of advancing the teaching, learning, and practicing of management, the purpose of the SMA Creativity & Innovation in Teaching Award is to encourage and recognize the development and implementation of progressive teaching methods aimed at enhancing the learning experience, increase the effectiveness of teaching, and align teaching methodologies with the current and prospective market needs. One recipient may be selected each year.

Eligibility: To be considered for the SMA Creativity & Innovation in Teaching Award, the person should have a record that includes:

    1. A history of some type of teaching pedagogy innovation.
    2. Participation in at least 2 teaching sessions including in-track papers or PDIs at SMA.
    3. SMA membership in good standing.

A nominee’s body of teaching and external teaching recognition or awards demonstrating quality and innovation will be considered in this award. Winners of this award selected in the past three years will be ineligible to compete. SMA Board Members are eligible for this award.

Nomination and Award Process: Nominations are solicited from the SMA membership by the President of SMA. Self-nominations are accepted. Nominators are asked to send the nominee’s name(s) and a CV with relevant information, along with a short note about why they think this person is qualified for this award. An additional letter of support from another SMA member is required. The nomination form on this page is the only way to submit a nomination. The award winner will be recognized at SMA’s annual conference and must attend the SMA meeting to receive the award.

Nomination packages should include the following in a single .pdf file with the award name abbreviation, followed by the nominee’s abbreviated first and middle name and last name (e.g., ECOSA-KP JONES.pdf):

    1. A nomination letter summarizing how the nominee meets the criteria for the award.
    2. A current copy of the nominee’s Curriculum Vitae.
    3. Letter of support from another SMA member.

SMA Officers or a committee appointed by the SMA Officers will review the nominations and select a recipient. SMA reserves the right not to select a recipient if inadequate nominations are received.

The deadline to submit a nomination is August 15, 2024.
