SMA Ascendant Scholar Award

Consistent with the primary mission of SMA of advancing the teaching, learning, and practicing of management, the purpose of the SMA Ascendant Scholar Award is to encourage and recognize scholarly excellence among early career management scholars.
Eligibility: To be considered for the SMA Early Career Outstanding Service Award, the nominee should have a record that includes:
- Excellence in research, characterized by the high quality publication(s).
- A trajectory or potential that looks very promising for the future.
- Presentation of at least two papers at SMA over the past 5 years.
- A current rank of assistant or associate professor or a related non-tenure track position.
- Membership in SMA in good standing
- Detailing the influence of SMA in your scholarship record, including illustrating research progressions from presentation to publication (Optional).
SMA Board Members are eligible for this award. Previous winners of this award are ineligible.
Nomination and Award Process: Nominations are solicited from the SMA membership by the President of SMA. Self-nominations are accepted. Nominators are asked to send the nominee’s name and a CV with relevant information, along with a short note about why they think this person would make a great nominee. An additional letter of support from another SMA member is required. The nomination form on this page is the only way to submit a nomination. The award winner will be recognized at SMA’s annual conference and must attend the SMA meeting to receive the award.
The nomination package should include the following in a single .pdf file with the award name abbreviation, followed by the nominee’s abbreviated first name and last name (e.g., ASA-KP JONES.pdf):
- A nomination letter summarizing how the nominee meets the criteria for the award.
- A current copy of the nominee’s Curriculum Vitae.
- Letter of support from another SMA member.
SMA Officers or a committee appointed by the SMA Officers will review the nominations and select the recipient(s). SMA reserves the right not to select a recipient if inadequate nominations are received.
The deadline to submit a nomination is August 15, 2024.
