Information for Candidates
The Journal of Management Scientific Reports (https://smgmt.org/jomsr/) is a journal dedicated to scientific replication and theory testing in the field of management, including business strategy and policy, entrepreneurship, human resource management, organizational behavior, organizational theory, and research methods research. JOMSR focuses on submissions that test previously published theory either as a first test, replication, or generalizability test. JOMSR seeks methodologically strong contributions that draw on existing theory or hypotheses and either 1) present a compelling case for why (these elements of) the theory warrant testing, or 2) in the case of replication or a generalizability test, why replication or testing generalizability is warranted. Further, papers should clearly delineate how the empirical test of the theory (or some of its propositions) contributes to management research. JOMSR is the partner journal to the well-regarded Journal of Management (JOM), and the editors of JOMSR and JOM coordinate some activities at the SMA and AOM annual meetings.
Serving as Editor requires a commitment of time, good management skills, and prior editorial experience. SMA, which is the governing body for this journal, has worked to reduce the administrative burden by providing resources in conjunction with our publisher, Sage Publishing. JOMSR and SMA have historically benefitted from a cooperative arrangement between the Association, Sage Publishing, and the editor’s home institution, which collectively provide the resources needed to run the journal. Sage Publishing provides a team and support, including:
- A production editor
- A marketing manager
- Peer review technology specialists
- Editorial assistants
- Copy editors
- Support for editorial “calibration” meetings with associate editors
SMA is pleased to provide stipends to the Editor-in-Chief and the editorial team they select. SMA also provides a budget to be distributed as deemed appropriate by the Editor. This could be used to support/supplement items such as but not limited to:
- Travel expenses
- Local staff salaries (RAs, admin staff)
- Furniture, computer equipment
- Board member gifts
- Event sponsorship
SMA also provides additional resources beyond the Editor’s operating budget:
- Funds for the editorial board meetings and receptions at the Academy of Management and SMA.
- Associate Editor Honoraria
- Support for editorial “calibration” meetings with associate editors
- Support for public relations specialist work with editors and authors to promote the journal
Support from one’s home institution is also seen as useful for the success of the journal. In the past, support has come in the form of:
- Administrative support
- A teaching reduction for each year of the editorial term
- Summer salary
