Step 3

Assigned a Scholarly "Barback"

After the proposal is submitted in Step 2 and reviewed, participants will be matched by the SMA JOMSR Guided “Pub” Crawl Committee with a “Scholarly Barback” based on the theory being tested or the paper being replicated. Matching announcements will be made by email by June 15, 2025. If you have any questions or haven’t received an email introducing you to your Scholarly Barback by June 15, 2025, please reach out to SMA Board Member, Julie Hancock (julie.hancock@unt.edu).

The purpose of the Scholarly Barback pairing is to give “Pub” Crawl participants an opportunity to fine-tune their research question(s) and corresponding methodological approach before data collection begins.  It will be your responsibility as the Pub Crawl participant to contact your assigned Scholarly Barback to schedule your first meeting. We encourage you to meet a total of 2-3 times with your Barback during the summer months to help solidify your study idea and obtain feedback on your proposal as you develop the full study plan.
